ABOUT THE ARTIST Sharon Ziegenhagen is an award-winning artist who specializes in purebred dogs, horses, and wildlife. Her work has been selected for numerous shows including The Wichita Art Show at the Dog Show; The Contemporary Canine Exhibition at the AKC Museum of the Dog in St. Louis, Missouri; the Harness Tracks of America auction in Lexington, Kentucky; and the New York Dog Fanciers Club Dog Art Competition. A member of the National Wood Carvers Association and the National Dog Museum Artists' Registry, the artist has won numerous woodcarving awards including "Best of Show-Sculpture/Other Media" at the 1993 and 1994 Trails West Art Show in Vancouver, Washington; a "Best of Section", the "People's Choice" and the "Competitor's Choice" award at the 1997 annual Idaho Woodcarver Guild's show in Boise, Idaho; and the "Best of Show" at the 1997 Montana State carving show in Missoula, Montana. Bronze sculpture awards include "Best of Hound" and "Best of Nonsporting" exhibit at the 2000 and 2001 Spokane, Washington Dog in Art Competition; the Best Puppy Entry award at the 2002 Wichita Show; and a 3rd place in the 2003 "Dog Days of Summer (and Cats, Too)" juried art show in Washington, DC. A lifelong dog lover, the artist studies each AKC breed standard before beginning a sculpture. While paying close attention to the standard, the artist's goal is to create a sculpture that reflects the beauty and dignity of every dog.
